Gearing Up For Baby

Diaper Bag in Olive Josie Baby Bag

As a seasoned mom of three boys, with a ten year spread between #2 and #3, it’s an understatement to say that a lot has changed. There are so many new products it’s like upgrading from a rotary to an iPhone overnight. I’ve changed. My body is unrecognizable. And the world of baby gear has blown up! So many thoughtful and creative products with real solutions have entered the market. Parents have clearly made their opinions known or better yet started their own businesses to bring ease and comfort to what can sometimes feel like endless and long days of smiles and tears.

The developments in infant’s health products are mind boggling. While I’m still adjusting to the idea of sucking out the babies' nose with the Nosefrida, I must admit it is so much more efficient than a nasal bulb! I was euphoric to find a temporal thermometer I can stroke across the babies' forehead rather than using the traditional and terrifying anal thermometer! (Just YUCK by the way.) Spout covers can now tell you exactly how hot the bathwater is. It’s awesome to not have to second guess my ability to feel pain while testing bath water on two hours of sleep! For the middle of the night diaper changes that happen with incredible frequency, I have found great relief with the addition of Keekaroo's Peanut Diaper Changer. Gone are the trips to the laundry basket with a soiled cover, now all I have to do is wipe it down and head back to bed.

Baby clothes are killing me this time around. With each baby, I received Mysterio Predicts T-shirts by Wry Baby as shower gifts. The shirts predicted that my eldest would become a “Champion Hog Caller” my second a “Phone Psychic” and the new edition a “Smooth Operator.” This fun fashion was a rare find a decade ago. Now there are so many great companies making clothing that speaks to me in organic, cozy fabrics. Companies like Winter Water Factory, Kickee Pants, and Milkbarn Organic have upped the baby fashion game so much so that I wish they would all branch out into adult lines. I cherish the day I stumbled on Zulily and opened a pandora’s box of great deals on designer gear. Daily, I’m drawn in by the perfect hedgehog onesie, hippo jumpsuit or ironic “I’m silently correcting your grammar” tee. Genius.

The upgrades in everyday gear has most impressed me. I started off with a Bjorn 13 years ago, when carrying your baby wasn’t called “baby wearing.”  Today's Bjorns have breathable mesh and there are a dozen new carriers for every type of mama and baby. There are ergonomic carriers, wraps, ring slings, pouch slings, mei tais, soft structured carriers and more. Play groups are now based on your preferred mode of baby transportation. Cults are formed, gurus followed and languages developed to assure you have chosen your up to $3000 baby wearing experience wisely. I opted for a Lenny Lamb because I liked the beachy colors. It was a safe choice for me and I didn’t feel I had the mental capacity to pick up any new language skills. However, hardly any baby product has adapted as well as the diaper bag! Gone are the days of clumsy, slouchy, shapeless black holes of dirty diapers and lipstick. That’s why I love my Josie by cee cee & ryan.  It gets me. It has designated space for the babe and I to maintain order and it upstages even my favorite purses. No more pulling out everything to find the binky that somehow found its way to the very bottom of the diaper bag. I have a pocket for that now. I love having so many pockets and a space for my things makes it that much more special. The right diaper bag can pull your life together in a snap!

While some of the developments in baby gear are staggering (How many types of sippy cups can there be?) for the most part I am so happy with the ease and convenience I’ve found this time around. Products are designed to work harder, last longer, be efficient, and look ridiculously cute...as if babies could be any cuter! You know times are changing for the better when your teen wants to help with taking the baby's temperature, change diapers and packing the diaper bag! Yes…you heard me right. I can’t believe it either! This is one #happymom.

XOXO

I love my cee cee & ryan diaper bag. I got it as a gift bef Re baby arrived. I stared using it as just a regular purse because it was so fashion forward and the color was MADE for me. I have two diaper bags and this is the one I choose. It wipes down easily, you can turn it upside down and shake out the weeks crumbs, pop it back on your shoulder and head out lookin fab every time!
